York is one of our favourite northern getaways. And our home in this noble city is just a 10-minute walk from York Minster (the most uttered word on sight of which is ‘wow’).
No. 1 York by GuestHouse is a Grade II Listed Regency townhouse of stately proportions and head-turningly good looks. It has huge, dreamy sash windows, higher-than-high ceilings, a sweeping central staircase, and ivy around the door. Its grand-but-friendly face is full of charm, and inside you’ll find pantries stocked full of treats for the taking, great restaurant food throughout the day, delicious drinks from the bar, a spa centred on bespoke therapies, and a straight-from-the-heart welcome.
No. 1 York has received the coveted Tripadvisor 2025 golden badge, awarding us 'Best of the Best' status. This puts us in the top 1% of all properties globally on TripAdvisor, plus we're the number one rated hotel in York too.
Our 38 lovable bedrooms, including three standout suites, are dotted around the building’s three floors. Each one has its quirks courtesy of the building’s heritage detailing and our interior designer’s wonder-inspiring style.
Explore our neighbour Pearly Cow and try the best produce from land and sea cooked over fire or served over ice. Enjoy our decadent take on the English institution that is the afternoon tea. And don't forget to head to The Bar at No.1 to find the most drinkable deliciousness served all day to regulars and guests.
Our spa sits down in the arches of our cellar in our York hotel. It’s a cocooning world of bespoke wellbeing experiences. There are five treatment rooms, including a room for two. And a seriously soothing space for post-treatment relaxation.
Tie the knot in the beyond charming walled city of York. Weddings at our York hotel are truly a sight to behold...Our regency townhouse has been lovingly transformed into a palatial city pad, ready to host up to 50 guests for a wonder-filled wedding day (or longer!).
We've all heard of blue-sky thinking, and sometimes getting the team out of the office into the fresh air is just the ticket. Take things up a notch with a meeting in York at No.1.
York’s abundance of incredible parks makes it a perfect dog-holiday destination. And if you’d like a luxurious lie-in when your loyal pal needs a stroll, we have trusted local walkers on hand.
There's a Crosley Record player in every one of our rooms along with a selection of records too, so you can listen to your favourite tunes whilst relaxing in the bath or getting ready for a night on the town. You'll also have access to a larger selection of records to browse during your stay in our vinyl library situated in the lobby.
The contents of our Pantry is all yours whenever the fancy takes you. You’ll find it stocked daily with delicious savoury snacks and homemade sweet treats, soft drinks, filtered water and fresh fruit.
Let us meet you from your train and whisk your bags back to the hotel, in our cargo bike, so you can explore unhindered from the off. Get in touch to request your luggage pick up. Our service is available between 10.30am and 5.30pm and we require 24 hour's notice.
Parking is available at the rear of the hotel for £25 per night Monday to Thursday and £30 per night Friday to Sunday. Spaces are limited - please reserve your space as soon as you have booked by clicking below. If on-site parking is unavailable, there are several car parks just a short stroll from the hotel, including Marygate Car Park (YO30 7DT) and Bootham Row Car Park (YO30 7DU).
We've collected our most frequently asked questions from our wonderful guests, including questions about check-in times, bringing your pet or children, food and drink, spa and more and answered them for you and gathered them together on one page. If you can't find the answer you're looking for please do give us a call or drop us an email and our team will be delighted to help.
